Seeds - We planted some squash at Living Under One Sun (LUOS) last year in 2010. The squash were the first I had ever seen grow. I watched the growing squash in delight and amazement and it made my day when I was given one large squash (with the caveat that I save the seeds).
Without any idea as to how to cut into the tough outer skin of the squash, I tried various knives before settling on my "heavy-duty" knife from Germany. With difficulty I cut into the outer skin and was entranced by the flame-orange flesh. The seeds were dutifully saved :-)
Seed swaps and planting in 2011 - Some of the seeds were given away at the seeds swap in February 2011.
I planted some of the seeds in June 2011 (probably later than I should have). Unable to shower the young squash with as much attention as I would have liked or to water them as often as I would have liked, I had very little hope of seeing a baby squash.
Luckily we had a fair amount of rain during the Summer. On the few occasions I managed to pop into LUOS, the squash seemed happy doing their own thing. I know some of the other volunteers at LUOS watered the squash when they could, thank you guys.
