Getting back to your roots - the end of harvesting.

Attention all the Blooming Beds & Bees Champions: It's the time of Year for marking the end of the Harvesting season.

And to celebrate Melissa will be doing two workshops - Sunday 18th and Thursday 22nd of November between 11:00 - 14:00.

A message from Melissa ...
Root harvesting priority this year is to focus on the elecampagne (Inula helenium) and marshmallow (Althea officionalis) that are growing in abundance at our local Living Under One Sun allotment project.

The plants will need to be dug up, some roots cut away for processing into medicine, and the rest of the root stock divided and replanted or distributed to other community projects.

An in vitro study in Dublin showed that in a test tube Inula could be efficiently anti-microbial to MRSA - and as for marshmallow, well tell me a scenario when its soothing anti-inflammatory properties don’t come in useful!

Together the plants are a winning combination - every garden should have them.

Autumn & winter gardening – community volunteering in horticulture and biodiversity getting it all ready for Spring, planting Winter greens, broad beans, peas, garlic & onions, propagating, mulching fruit trees, herbs, soft fruits and bushes.
