Email report from Leyla: Living Under One Sun has Local School visit 11/05/2011
A fantastic day at the allotment on Wednesday ... ninety (year four pupils) and nine adults (teachers, students, parents) spent a day of activity with us.
We were very busy from 09:00 - 16:00 . Four groups of around twenty five, first had a tour and a talk on biodiversity and Tottenham Marshes led by David Totteridge followed by session at the allotment, learning about sustainability and growing organic food.
They loved the discussions about poo (horse poo, warm poo, compost toilet etc). Michael cheekily make them believe that weeding the allotment was the best thing after slice of bread! After welcome and chat about why we do what we do and how, in three groups led by Michael, Lyn and I they all managed to dig, weed, water and ask loads of questions.
Of all the visitors only nine of the adults and pupils said they have heard or visited the Marches and four could not remember when that was. THAT IS NOT GOOD!
So well done to Cheery the teacher and Kathy from HPA and to US.
